"Hi ! My name is Ahmed. I am 45 years old and have a graphics design company here in Cairo.
I've worked hard all my life and ever since I graduated from college, I have always dreamt of setting up my own business. Designing is a passion for me and I enjoy the independence of being my own boss !
When I first started out, I used to work for a small design firm until 5 and after office hours, I used to free-lance for a small hourly fee. I always wanted to start my own firm and so every month I would put aside a portion of my income toward fulfilling this dream. My father had always told me, “money saved is money earned” and I knew I had to save to be able to reach my goal.
Today I know that my habit of saving is one of the main reasons I have my own business. That is why I try and convey the same message to my employees. Most of those who work for me are young, either unmarried or recently married…and are looking forward to a promising future. I always tell them that saving is one of the strongest paths towards the realization of their dreams – be it to have their own business, as I do, or to pay for their child’s education, marriage or a dream home.
My company already had a Group Life Insurance, to which I decided to include a voluntary savings program, which allows my employees to have a disciplined form of saving. Since the deductions are made from their salary, it's easy to manage and as a reward for their behavior and effort in the workplace, the company also contributes to their account. In the absence of a social security safety net, I see this as a valuable benefit that will help them in their retirement years !"
