METLIFE - INFORMATION ON THE PROCESSING OF PERSONAL DATA

This MetLife Privacy Notice is intended to provide you with basic information regarding what personal information is collected from, processed, and shared about you, including how it is used transferred, and stored by American Life Insurance Company (“MetLife” or “we”) in relation to our marketing campaigns. Please read this Privacy Notice carefully. MetLife is the data controller and Born Interactive (“Vendor”) is a data processor (each as defined under data protection laws) acting on behalf of MetLife in connection with processing your personal information as set out below.

Your participation in any marketing campaign is entirely voluntary. You are free to decide what personal information, if any, you submit on any of MetLife’s pages on social media (the “MetLife Pages”).

By participating in the campaign(s), you acknowledge the collection, transfer, sharing, use and storage of your personal information by MetLife as stated in this Privacy Notice.

For clarity, references to “personal information” shall include “personal data” and any other similar terms defined under applicable privacy and data protection laws.

Why your personal information is collected and how it is used (processed) by MetLife and Born Interactive

The campaign(s) made accessible by MetLife and via the Vendor is (1) to enable MetLife employees and/or agents to build client/potential client profiles (as defined below) (2) to enable MetLife to (a) offer insurance products to clients/potential clients (b) serve its clients/potential clients whenever needed or requested and (3) for the purpose of marketing communication (collectively, the “MetLife Purposes”).

Legal Bases (conditions for processing your personal information)

Your personal information collected on MetLife Pages or otherwise shared and used (processed) in connection with the Campaign(s), by MetLife, is processed for and on the basis of MetLife’s legitimate interest related to performing marketing communication as set out in MetLife Purposes mentioned above.

Personal Information Processed by MetLife in connection with the Campaign(s)

This Privacy Notice covers any personal information used to build and enhance your profile and/or processed in connection with the profiling results, including information that you submit through the MetLife Pages such as:

  • General identification and contact information (e.g., names, e-mail addresses, contact number); and
  • professional information (e.g., business address, job titles).

You may also, but solely on a voluntary basis, choose to provide other relevant information as part of your profile.

Please note: You should not submit the following sensitive information, unless legally or contractually required: sexual orientation, race, ethnic origin, religion, beliefs, disability, marital status, creed, nationality, national origin, color and/or (unless explicitly requested) age.

You are responsible for the content of the information you provide in connection with the Campaign(s) on MetLife Pages, and you must ensure it is legal, truthful, accurate; the information provided must not mislead or infringe on any third party’s rights such that it would be legally actionable.

Data Sharing

We contracted with the Vendor to collect your information to be shared with us for, and used in connection with, the MetLife Purposes. You understand that your personal information is processed by Vendor and shared by and transferred from Vendor to MetLife and MetLife affiliates inside or outside Lebanon.

Personal information about you will only be reviewed by the Vendor, MetLife employees or agents who have a business need to access such personal information for the MetLife Purposes which may include customer service personnel, sales personnel and managers, etc. We may share personal information about you with selected service providers or consultants acting on our behalf. Those third parties will be bound by contract to protect any personal information they process on behalf of MetLife in accordance with applicable laws and regulations.

MetLife may also disclose personal information about you in order to: (1) protect the legal rights, privacy or safety of MetLife or its employees, agents and contractors; (2) protect against fraud or other illegal activity or for risk management purposes; (3) respond to inquiries or requests from government or public authorities; (4) permit us to pursue available remedies or limit the damages that we may sustain; (5) enforce our policies; and/or (6) comply with applicable laws or legal process.

MetLife may transfer information that is collected about you on MetLife Pages to third parties in the event of any change in the corporate structure of MetLife such as, but not limited to, merger, consolidation, sale, joint venture, assignment, transfer or other disposition of all or any portion of MetLife’s assets or stock (including without limitation in connection with any bankruptcy or similar proceedings).

Record Keeping

MetLife keeps records of your personal information, for the Purposes and as stated in Information Lifecycle Management Retention Guidelines located on MetLife’s intranet.

Your personal data is retained by Vendor as long as MetLife’s contract with the Vendor is in effect. Following termination and/or expiration of such contract, Vendor is required to promptly return or expunge such personal data (unless otherwise required by law or regulation).

Security

The security and confidentiality of your personal information is important to MetLife. We take reasonable precautions to safeguard the personal information shared with the Vendor and third parties and/or stored on MetLife servers. Such safeguards include having technical, administrative, and physical security measures designed to protect your personal information from unauthorized access and improper use. We restrict access to your personal information to those individuals who need to know that information. In addition, we train our employees and agents about the importance of confidentiality and maintaining the privacy and security of personal information.

Rights

In certain countries, consistent with applicable law, you may have the right to access, correct, transfer to a different data controller, delete or object to the processing of information that MetLife holds about you. In many countries, you have a right to lodge a complaint with the appropriate data protection authority if you have concerns about how MetLife processes your personal information.

By providing your personal information, you accept to be contacted and agree to receive marketing communication in relation to our products, special offers or services that we believe may be of interest to you. With this consent, we can process your personal information in connection with the MetLife Purpose.

Pursuant to the applicable law on the protection of personal data, you declare that you have read the information on the processing of your personal information collected by MetLife for the aim of commercial promotion of its insurance products. Consequentially:

  • you consent to be contacted for commercial and advertising communications and direct sales with automated (email, sms) or traditional (mail, telephone) contact methods
  • you consent to be profiled - also through automated means – only to receive commercial proposals more in line with my specific interests, personal characteristics and my behaviours.
